Amazon Workers Are Listening to What You Tell Alexa

Amazon Workers Are Listening to What You Tell Alexa

“Amazon.com Inc. employs thousands of people around the world to help improve the Alexa digital assistant powering its line of Echo speakers. ”

Not as creepy as it sounds, digital assistants are AI systems that are still learning and need people to interpret what is heard by Alexa, Siri, Google, Xbox, or other digital assistants.

Personally, I don’t want anyone listening to my conversations but if a burglary, home invasion, kidnapping, or murder happened and the speaker happens to catch an audio or video would you want them to ensure the privacy of everyone by not reporting it.

I think they should go further and trigger the device by a gunshot, loud noise, or someone in distress and if warranted, call police. This will be a slippery slope but could help prevent crime.

The proliferation of doorbell, dashboard, and other cameras, police are getting and advantage but adding audio could be much more helpful in collecting evidence.

Read the Bloomberg article, is well written and explains a lot.
